Papers of the Riley, Graham, Friel, Tate, and Sanders families; papers of Captain Friel Tate Sanders, 14th U.S. Army Corps, regarding time served in the China-Burma-India theater during World War II; and miscellaneous papers from the Virginia counties of Washington and Wythe. Sanders writes to his parents Edwin Hanson Sanders and Elizabeth Graham Sanders about training in Illinois, travel to his station in China, life in the China-Burma-India theater, raids and war news, and his post-war assignment as a cryptographic security officer. He mentions fellow Virginians and off-duty shows and activities. Financial and legal papers include Montgomery and Wythe County, Va., land transactions, 1788-1871, and a copy of the will of Sophia Friel, 1836, mentioning slaves. Clippings and other miscellaneous items regarding Wythe County include an historical sketch of Anchor of Hope Presbyterian Church, Max Meadows, Va., by Agnes Crockett Davis, and an article "The Shelby-Campbell King's Mountain Controversy and the Gubernatorial Campaign of 1812" by Agnes Graham Sanders Riley.
